The color management workflow will help all your devices use the same color language so that they can share accurate color information. Each device used for capturing and creating digital images uses slightly different CMYK or RGB formulas to create the same colors. Digital cameras, scanners, and displays use additive color models that depend on different color gamut and vary by manufacturer. Printers can be RGB or CMYK and use various types of ink and paper. Compare the collected color data with sample colors and use it to create an ICC profile, which is essentially a 3D map or color space of all colors that the device can capture, display, or print. It describes the specific characteristics of the device so that other devices know which color language it is speaking.

Conversion is the process of moving color data from the color space of one device to the color space of another device. These controlled transformations are carried out in the workspace. It can be imagined as an aviation hub - a public place that connects workflows.
If the image is captured by an RGB camera, edited in Photoshop, added to the layout in InDesign, and then printed on a CMYK printer, it must be converted multiple times. Embedded configuration files help maintain color appearance when images move between workspaces. It‘s like wearing a name tag at a meeting. If an image has color reproduction characteristics, other devices will know its content exactly, so your workflow can produce consistent colors.
